The Sunlight Construction project in Avon, CT.

The house at 35 West Hills in Avon, CT is being built to prove that a sophisticated, energy efficient building can also be an architecturally sophisticated, high end home that is indistinguishable from other conventionally constructed homes in the same neighborhood.

This 4 bedroom home will be just under 5,000 sq. ft., including a third floor bonus room and a three story foyer. The home will be heated and cooled with a geothermal vertical loop system. The foundation, exterior walls, ceiling and floors over unfinished spaces will be insulated with closed cell foam, including R-37.4 in the walls, R-65 on the rafters and roof sheeting and R-27 along the foundation walls. The windows will have a U-value of .29 and the exterior doors will be R-7. Domestic hot water will be provided by a 95% efficient tankless hot water heater. All lighting will be done with CFL or pin connector bulbs and there will be Energy Star paddle fans in each bedroom. All applicable appliances will be Energy Star rated.

Trade partners for this project are Robert Matto of RPM Energy Solutions LLC, Glasco Heating and Cooling and Collins & Co. for insulation.

The subdivision, West Hills of Avon, where the house will be built, is comprised of 14 new homes ranging from 3,500 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft. The subdivision is served by natural gas provided by CNG. Our expectation is to partner with CNG as the backup fuel provider for the home's geo-thermal system. This system will provide the heating and domestic hot water needs for the home.
